Mayweather vs. Canelo PPV: Sept. 14 fight card, preview, video, full fight coverage

On September 14, Floyd Money Mayweather faces Canelo Alvarez live on PPV. Get all the details on this huge night of boxing, right here at Bloody Elbow.

For the first time since 2007, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26 KOs) will fight more than once in a calendar year. After dispatching Robert Guerrero on May 4th, the reigning, undefeated WBC welterweight champion will face the young undefeated Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather made the announcement earlier tonight on his official Twitter account.

Canelo (42-0-1, 30 KOs) is the current WBC and WBA light middleweight (154 lbs) champion, having defeated Austin Trout in Austin, TX this past April. The 22-year-old went on record as saying that he wouldn’t fight Floyd at welterweight, so presumably Mayweather will move up to 154 lbs for the 3rd time in his career. Mayweather’s other fights at light middleweight were wins against Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya, the latter standing as the largest selling PPV of all-time.

There is no question that this is a massive fight, and given Mayweather’s drawing power combined with the Latino audience you could be looking at one of the biggest PPVs in boxing history. There’s also no UFC event scheduled for September 14th, so this fight will surely be the center of attention when the time comes.
