If you simply called this the “Andre Ward” fight, I doubt many would criticize you. Ward is what this fight is all about, and for good reason. The undefeated fighter has an incredible list of accomplishments – perfect record, Super Middleweight title, Olympic Gold medal. What’s even more impressive is that you feel like he still is on the rise. His last fight, a 10 round clinic against Chad Dawson, helped propel him up the pound-for-pound lists. Today, you’ll find him as high as #2 on some lists, behind only Floyd Mayweather. Clearly, Andre Ward is something special.

Here, Ward comes back to action for the first time in over a year, as a shoulder injury has kept him on the sidelines. Shoulder injuries can be tricky to recover from – this will be our first chance to see how the shoulder is holding up. It will also be an opportunity for Ward to dust off any ring rust. Opponent Edwin Rodriguez is also undefeated, though clearly has not faced even close to the same level of competition seen by Ward. We all know what this is – a tune-up fight to get the champion back in there as he gets ready for bigger and better fights. It may not be highly competitive, but you never know in boxing. Regardless, I’m just excited to have Ward back in the ring.
